Our Story
Why DOT Intel exists
Commercial insurance distribution is built on relationships. Independent agents, carrier distribution teams, underwriters, and wholesalers work together to place coverage for businesses across the country. But the data that should inform those relationships is scattered across regulatory databases, carrier systems, and industry reports that are difficult to access and even harder to act on.
Scattered records make it harder to prepare for an account call, check a carrier's history, and plan a trucking territory.
DOT Intel was founded to solve this problem. We started with FMCSA regulatory data — the richest public dataset in commercial transportation insurance — and built an intelligence platform that turns raw filings into structured, actionable market intelligence.
Our platform tracks 1.7 million DOT-numbered carriers — 352,000+ active for-hire — and has processed 7.4 million historical insurance filing records, with 1.89 million in a rolling four-year window mapped across 32 insurer parents and 56 child brands. Census, authority, and current insurance status refresh daily; insurance filing history and safety signals refresh monthly. We deliver this intelligence through modules designed for specific insurance workflows: prospecting, territory planning, underwriting triage, competitive analysis, and market opportunity identification.
